INVISALIGN®

One of the primary concerns people often have about orthodontic treatment is the esthetic impact of  metal wires and brackets on their smile. Especially for adults, the prospect of wearing unattractive metal braces for long periods of time can be very discouraging.  Invisalign® offers an almost invisible aligning system that straightens teeth accurately  and does not contain any metal. In addition to being clear, Invisalign® aligning trays can be  removed by the patient for all meals as well as important meetings and occasions.

Based on his experience Dr. Rube has been designated by Invisalign as a "preferred provider" in New Rochelle and Westchester. In addition, with the use of advanced technology such as a high speed digital scanner made specifically for Invisalign, the need for bulky impressions has been eliminated.

What kind of bite problems can Invisalign® correct?

Invisalign® corrects most of the same dental problems as traditional metal brace orthodontic treatments; the major difference is that Invisalign® trays are almost invisible, and can be removed by the patient when needed.

Here are some problems that are commonly corrected with Invisalign®:

  • Overcrowding – This occurs when there is too little space for the teeth to align normally in the mouth.  Overcrowding can cause tooth decay and increase the likelihood of gum disease.
  • Large gaps between teeth – This can sometimes occur because teeth are missing or because the jaw continues to grow abnormally.
  • Crossbite – This common dental problem occurs when one or multiple upper teeth bite inside the lower teeth.  As a consequence, uneven wear can lead to bone erosion and gum disease.
  • Overbite – This problem occurs when the upper teeth project further than, or completely cover, the lower teeth.  Eventually, jaw pain and TMJ may occur.
  • Underbite – This is the inverse of the overbite; the lower teeth project further than, or completely cover, the upper teeth.  Eventually, jaw pain and TMJ can occur.

What does Invisalign® treatment involve?

Inivisalign treatment starts with an initial consultation, during which Dr. Rube likes to take the time needed to discuss each patient's specific goals and concerns.  At that time a three dimensional scan as well as photographs are taken in order to evaluate the patient's teeth, bite, and smile. Once the final treatment plan is approved by the patient, a customized series of clear aligners is fabricated by Invisalign. The number of aligners required varies with each individual case. However, the most common concerns of adults, such as crowded front teeth, can be corrected in significantly less time then they anticipated. Most of the adult cases treated by Dr. Rube are completed within five to eight months. Also, after the first "try in" visit, future appointments are brief and generally four to six weeks apart.
